Hello, you super smart analyzers. This week you've "gotten" two literary analysis strategies: Five S Strategy for Passage Analysis, which you can find HERE, and the SIFT method for literary analysis, which is HERE or HERE. We read and analyzed Hemingway's classic "Hills Like White Elephants" and agreed that it was most likely a story about abortion and that, although intentionally vague, there is plenty of evidence to support that idea. After all, "...once they take it away, you never get it back." Heavy, right? We've spent some time this week working both in groups and independently to practice and apply our strategies. I've pointed out (again and again) that after you've done the work of these specific and intentional annotations, you have a pretty legit analysis, thesis statement ready. Otherwise, for an assessment, we applied the Five-S strategy to "The Story of an Hour", and then we watched a Taylor Swift video because that's how we roll, yo. Tonight you're reading THIS ARTICLE from The Atlantic to prepare for our first Writer Group (cue image of tea and crumpets) and mentor text study. Are you excited? I'm excited. Get excited! Disclaimer: there will be no actual tea and crumpets.
